Canadian Hosting Firms - Love that Conversion Rate

If you have not noticed the US dollar has been taking a beating lately. After all that is why you are paying more at the pump. The Canadian dollar is actually worth more than a US dollar. This could be a good time for Canadian hosting companies.

Many Canadian hosting firms have a high percentage of US customers, or more importantly, customers where the rates are based on US dollars. To make a long story short the US dollar customers generate about 15%  more in revenues today compared to a year ago. To Canadian firms this all falls to that wonderful place, the bottom line. Now if we could only do something more with that cash.

Even if the Canadian company does not have US$ customers they benefit. The Canadian firms I spoke with see this as a good time for capital expansion. They can actually purchase capital items like servers for less than US firms.

Sort of like the shell game. If you combine converting dollars which are worth 15% more than a year ago and the ability to buy equipment cheaper then your neighbor it starts looking interesting. Some Canadian firms are even looking south for acquisitions.

And why is this happening? Natural resources. Canada has something in great abundance; oil.
